From a Delhi-ite to a Mumbaikar!

Zara hatke, Zara bachke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan!

It was my last day in Delhi when we were packing the last suitcases... Aggarwal Packers had already emptied our house 2 days earlier.

We had to board the Rajdhani at 4:25PM and were just about to drop our Figo at my sister's when my husband said - "Let's Drive!"

I wasn't sure if he was goofing around as our train was in 4 hours and Bombay 1500Km away!

... 6 hours later we were on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway and yes he wasn't fooling around really. There we were, on a roadtrip that will be with us for quite a while....

Delhi > Jaipur > Chiitorgarh > Indore > Nashik > Bombay - 3 states, 3 days and and breathtaking roads.

While a lot of friends on Twitter suggested the route via Gujarat. We stuck to Rajasthan, MP, Maharashtra and kid you not, had the time of our lives!

High on the Highway

Zooming through Western Ghats in our Figo! What a sight.
We did quite a bit of planning before me moved in... had seen quite a few places and particularly liked this flat in Goregaon East. On the 16th Floor, our window opened to the most aspirational view of the Film City!

Often in the evenings, while sipping on a cup of tea (I love my tea by the way... all kinds), I've had these callings you know of being part of the 14,000 Crore industry - of making it big in the city of dreams!

We'll just park aside that thought for a bit, and get on with the Bombay tales for the time being...

A quick glimpse of what is home now -
A lot like home

Jaadu ki Nagri

It's been 10 odd days here I'm already loving it! People on the streets who do not look like they're just out of a party, is such a happy change from Delhi.

But I miss the food! Overall, the food is quite sad here - I'm yet to explore the seafood offerings. Being a Bong, I've a slight soft spot there :)

Work is close by and thus I've still not been introduced to the madness of Bombay locals. I do plan to visit it some Sunday but.

Goregaon is quite a breather w.r.t the Suburban Bombay. Thanks to the Borivali National Park and the Filmcity in the vicinity, there's enough and more breathing space - quite a virtue in Bombay I hear.

The view of the hills from home is also an advantage.

Been to the town, one weekend. The drive through Bandra-Worli sea link is breathtaking! Colaba is quite the upmarket hub and rightly famous!

Just do not eat at Bademiyan. Being a foodie, I was hugely disappointed. Suggest you walk into #Social next door. Impresario has quite hit the jackpot with this chain.

Cheap booze, fantastic food and young lively ambiance. Not to mention the location - it's neighbor to Taj Palace, a 2 min walk from Gateway of Mumbai.  South hall fish n chips, non veg club sandwich, chana zor garam, fully loaded nachos are just one of the delicacies that you can binge on!

We also happened to visit the legendary Prithvi Theatre & Cafe one evening. Tucked into a narrow lane, on off-shoot from the Juhu Tara Road, this place is at stone throw distance from the Juhu Beach.

Food is cheap, delicious and options are galore.

Lights. Camera. Action.
The Legendary...

Just when I walked into the cafe, 2 well know #Bollywood actors walked out wearing plain Jane clothes and an unassuming attitude.

I guess that's Bombay for you. The wealth and the fame do not get into people's head. They are just one of the many that the city caters to.....

So far it's been lovely!

Bombay is rightly the "Jadu ki Nagri" - welcoming to the hilt with a teasing adrenaline rush that the city almost injects in you.

Till later.

  1. I like this initiative. Mumbai has a lot of tales to be unravelled and this is a good way to record it. Try Mahesh Lunch Home for sea food. And be sure to check out Amitabh's house closeby. If you take the auto the auto wallah will surely make a mention. Also check out the Parsi joints in Colaba... Food is good. That place also has an old world charm about it...straight from the movies. Have funny and keep sending me your latest discovery :)

    1. Hey there... thanks!
Btw I did visit Kyani. Food is like every bang for the buck. The ambiance dated back to centuries!
Food I felt was just about ok. But given the prices... super cool!

  3. A friend of mine recently move to Mumbai from Pune. She hates everything you liked about this place. Her office was far from her house, she had to take the train and she's a vegetarian! :)
