About last night at The Kala Ghoda Festival

The budding actor, the travel bug stuck in city life and the aspirant theatre artist - well jobless peeps on a certain Wednesday night at the Gateway of India.

The Kala Ghoda festival in South Bombay is all one needs for a quick break from the daily grind of the city.

We were there last evening. Wrapped up early from work and made in time for “Unhe Kuch kehna Hai”, an interesting play on poetry by Rangshila Theatre Group. Having moved to Bombay recently, this was my 1st visit to the festival and my experience was superlative.

Grabbed a quick bite at this modest looking food stall called “Royal Food”, a 5-mins walk from the Town Hall. The Thick Shake, Toast with Butter & Jam and Grilled Cheese & Mushroom Sandwich were top notch! Easy on the pocket yet lip-smacking good food. Totally recommend!

This particular play was quite different from the ones I’ve seen before at The Hive and Prithvi Theatre. The whole premise of bringing alive famous poets from yesteryears through narration and songs was quite refreshing. Also, the open air set up, I think, added to the overall experience.

The venue, the circular garden right opposite the Town Hall was packed. Anurag Basu dropped by for a while and the enthralled audience got excited at this momentary “Celebrity spotting” :)

Overall the evening turned out to be quite memorable. Post the play, we drove to Marine drive and even stopped at Bandstand for a midnight cappuccino.

Bombay is beautiful. More so, late night, when the mad traffic is over. You see peeps driving on the roads, cycling too, chilling with friends at the Juice centres or just staring at the gorgeous Arabian Sea at one of the many sea faces in the city.

We drove back home well past midnight, tired as hell. Yet totally recharged and refreshed for a long day in the making.
